Second Engineer

Job objective

To carry out technical operations on board in a smooth, safe, efficient and effective way, within the limits of applicable law and regulation.

Tasks/Responsibilities

This job description is a guideline for your function and contains the most elementary tasks and responsibilities. Any interpretation of this job description is at the discretion of your superior.

• To ensure the safe operation of the vessel and to prevent pollution;
• To act in accordance with QHSE management system including the QHSE policy statement;
• To ensure compliance with laws and regulations and whenever applicable client requirements;
• To take care of (monitoring) the proper functioning of engines, machinery, (deck) installations and
equipment;
• To ensure preventive and routine maintenance of engines, machinery, (deck) installations and
equipment;
• To assist in repairs on engines, power supply, machinery, (deck) installations and equipment
whenever possible and practical;
• To ensure that technical spaces and stores are well-ordered and clean;
• To take care of up-to-date engine room records, planned maintenance system (MX Suite), files and
administration;
• Assist on deck where nescesary with deck crew
• To report hazardous situations, accidents or other non-conformities.

Authorities

Is authorized to make decisions and perform accordingly in order to execute the above tasks and responsibilities, always acting in accordance with the vessel related agreements, the Herman Sr. Management System, company policy, Standing Instructions, Ship Security Plan and (inter)national maritime law and regulations.

Job requirements
• Documents as per Certification matrix, preferable valid until 4 weeks after planned signing off date
• Proven knowledge of the English language (in writing, reading, speaking)
• Experience as a Engineer on board of a vessel with comparable machinery.
